Spring breeaak!! Okay we're kidding. (Sort of.)
With Co-Director Lucy St George's recent visit and the opening of our local Wahaca Brighton, we couldn't resist an #RSGTravel Tips guide for the amazing Mexico! It's a long way to go to just stick in one resort - there's so much to see and do. You can easily hop on an affordable (and comfortable!) coach and take the journey down the coast or into the city. If you fancy travelling in style, this can also be done with a private taxi - there's no excuse!
The best part is how every route includes amazing interiors and exteriors. From incredible street food to white sand beaches, underwater cenotes and gorgeous architecture, it is undoubtedly up there with our all time favourite travel destinations.
So take the flight, see the sights and make your way across the most beautiful country there is...
FROM CANCUN TO TULUM:
If you are flying to Cancun...good news! The trip down to beautiful Tulum could not be easier. Stop off on the way to the gorgeous Playa Del Carmen for a buzzing market experience. Aside from the obviously stunning sea views, here you can experience the cenotes in their full glory. Take a break from the heat and dip into their fresh cool waters in a river tour to remember...
EAT STREET: TAQUERIA LA EUFEMIA
When you reach Tulum, ditch the overpriced food on the rest of the beach and head to the Taqueria La Eufemia instead. Here you will find delicious tacos and mojitos to enjoy on the beach or in the traditional thatched shack setting. Wooden signs and blue-green painted beams enhance the relaxed feel you need for a late lunch or afternoon snack in the sun. The fish tacos are fantastic.
Have a peek at the Taqueria La Eufemia Facebook page here.
Tulum, Q.R., Mexico
We also recommend El Camello which is really popular with the locals. Go hungry for fresh fish, rice, beans and salads. Of course you must have a Burrito when in Mexico, so head to Burrito Amor for the best burrito in town. The name says it all!
The Papaya Playa Project provide a series of laid back Cabanas on the beach. The beachfront faces directly east allowing incredible views of sunrise each morning and a gentle breeze in the evening. Bliss. The charming beach houses lend themselves to simple living, mostly made from wood frames and thatched roofs. Bright fabrics cover the Verandas and creamy canopes mask the beautiful beds. It's an idyllic retreat.

EAT SMART: HARTWOOD
Bright, wild flavors from the edge of the Yucatán found on the jungle side of the beach in Tulum. You have to book as its super busy (and V expensive) but it's totally worth your while. All the cooking is done by an open fire within their handmade wood burning oven and grill. Every single ingredient is deeply rooted in the local region Mundo Maya, with spear-hunted fish and organic farming at the heart of the amazing menu. The dishes change up daily depending on what delicious ingredients are available - so customers always experience exciting new food.
We LOVE the laid-back rustic vibe of the decor, with glass oil lamps on every table, industrial lanterns in the stone-walled buildings and vibrant leafy palms in every corner. It's beautiful. See more pictures of the restaurant and local market on The Selby website (you can also read our Selby book review HERE, which is full of interior inspiration!)

SEE: FRIDA KAHLO MUSEUM
Artist Frida Kahlo is an incredibly inspirational figure. Her life was brilliantly colourful, as is reflected in the stunning design of her former home in Mexico - now the Frida Kahlo Museum. The cobalt blue walls are striking enough, but the inside offers an even bolder insight into her life with her personal items and artwork. Now open to the public, you can explore the corners of her world through a collection of her jewellery, outfits, photos and objects from the artist’s everyday life, interspersed with her art.
Bohemian and beautiful, look out for all the lushious plantlife, traditional Mexican stoneware sculptures and creative wallhangings for your own decor inspiration! You can also visit her famous four-poster bed with its crochet bed throws and pretty flower displays.

EAT CHIC: PUJOL
Ranked the 17th best restaurant in the world by Restaurant Magazine, Pujol offers Gourmet Mexican grub in a black-painted setting (love!), dark parquet flooring and an eye-catching wooden paneled and marble exterior. Exceptionally prepared octopus, Lamb tacos and a selection of classic tequilas are on the Menu, but this often changes depending on the locally sourced produce available - they always keep it interesting. STAY POSH: CASA CUIXMALA
You only need to look at this photo to know this is a fabulous place to spend a night or two. Blends of Latin American, Moroccan and Indian design creates an exotic fusion of colour, lavish fabrics and stunning sea views. Originally built for billionaire James Goldsmith, Casa Cuixmala became a hotel in 2014 and has attracted the likes of Madonna, Mick Jagger and Ralph Lauren to its Rhiad-style, jungle-surrounded deluxe interior.
A double room costs £1025 a night (when we said posh we weren't joking!) but it's easy to see why. The hotel is set comfortably in the hilltop overlooking the bright blue pacific, with pops of vibrant colour throughout each sharply white room and leafy potted plants to reflect the lush outdoors.
