Your questions answered
This is a great question.
A beautiful bar stool that won't quite fit is a disappointing homeware hassle that's easily prevented with the humblest of DIY tools (aka the tape measure). As with so many interior design projects, measuring is everything. There's nothing worse than falling in love with the perfect bar stool only to realise it's too tall or too short for your kitchen counter. A quick zip around with the measuring tape is all it takes to avoid this.
Our top tip is to leave about 25-30cm between the top of the seat of your bar stool and the underside of your counter so people can sit comfortably and can cross their legs if they fancy. For smaller kitchens, backless bar stools are a smart option - you can easily tuck them away under the worktop when you're not using them. If you've got the space to play with, though, make it count - a taller barstool with a statement backrest can take your kitchen island to the next level.
Bar stools come in a fabulous array of materials, each bringing its own personality to your kitchen. Wood adds timeless warmth, metal offers sleek modernity, faux leather brings a touch of luxe, and fabric or velvet exudes comfort and colour. The best choice is one that complements your kitchen decor while keeping lifestyle in mind. For example, young children and velvet can be a challenging mix, whereas wipe-clean wood or faux leather can take (most) things that are thrown at them.
Bar stools can be surprisingly comfortable, and the right bar stool can be just as cosy as a standard kitchen chair, especially if it has a padded seat and / or back, and comes with a footrest. Our bar stools combine height, support and style, and offer the ultimate in comfy seating whatever the occasion.
Slimline, symmetrical stools work perfectly in more compact spaces without skimping on style. Lightweight wooden stools visually open up a room, while a set of 2 barstools creates a neat and tidy aesthetic while offering extra seating.
Absolutely - materials like faux leather, metal, and treated wood wipe down in seconds, while a sponge-down will keep fabric seats fresh (always check the cleaning instructions). A quick routine clean once or twice a week lets them shine and shows them off to their best advantage.

Not at all! Four-poster beds can look absolutely stunning in smaller spaces. In fact, they can create the cosiest, inviting vibe that makes your bedroom feel like a luxury. The key is choosing the right style – sleeker, more minimal designs can add elegance without overwhelming your room. Light-coloured frames, open designs and soft draping can also keep the space feeling airy. So, if you’ve been dreaming of a four-poster bed, go for it! They always bring a feel of comfort and style no matter the room size.
Getting that dreamy-styled bed isn’t as tricky as it looks! The secret is layers, textures and a little attention to detail. Start with good quality bedding – soft breathable fabrics instantly make your bed feel and look more luxurious. Next, fold down the top sheet for that effortless, hotel style touch.
Pillows are key! Stack your sleeping pillows neatly against the headboard, then style your cushions infront, play around with different shapes and textures for a designer feel. And finally, add a blanket or throw and drape it at the foot of the bed for an extra cosy, finished look. Decorative shelving works beautifully in almost every room in the home - it simply depends on how you style them.
Shelves in the living room are perfect for displaying art, framed photos, candles and quirky little curios. They're the perfect way to frame a sofa, bring an alcove to life or create a relaxed alternative to a gallery wall.
And in the bedroom? They're ideal for books, small lamps, a bud vase or trinket trays (plus, stringing with fairy lights, of course!) A shelf above the bed can act as a focal point, and it's a combo that can make as striking a centrepiece as a mantel styled over a fireplace. Permission to use your best bedding always!
Then there's the hallway. It's an area of the home that's often overlooked, but hallways are just made for shelves (or shelves are made for hallways!) Use them for plants or flowers, mirrors, ornaments or practical but pretty pieces like trinket dishes or key catch-alls. Shelving is a great way to add personality to transitional spaces.
Last but far from least, there's the natural home of the shelf - the kitchen. Kitchens are brilliant for open shelving and shelf units alike, and they make the perfect styling partner for ceramics, glassware, cookbooks and decorative personality pieces.
In short? Decorative shelves work in pretty much any space in your home, and can morph to suit the space. They're the perfect solution to that blank wall that's been bothering you, and the ideal multi-tasker. Layered, useful and with the potential to become full-on personality pieces, the only limit is your imagination!
The answer to this is yes, they can - but you do need to choose the right style. Slim floating shelves like our Walnut Wood set add vertical interest without bulk, making them ideal for narrow hallways or alcoves, especially when styled with petite trinkets or ornaments. More ornate pieces like our Ornamental Wall Shelf With Mirror are perfect for lighting up a dark corner - styled with a pretty pillar candle, it's a winning combo that gives tight walls just the glow-up they need. Thoughtful proportions are everything.
It's a great question. It's very easy to get shelf-styling wrong, because it's not as easy as it looks! Start with a mix of heights and textures: stack books horizontally and vertically, add a sculptural object, then soften with something organic like a plant or ceramic piece. Leave breathing space between items and stick to a loose colour palette to keep things feeling cohesive. Step back and assess regularly - if your shelf feels busy, remove one piece. Fewer pieces, styled thoughtfully, always looks more intentional than cramming things together just because you can. Ultimately, it's all about balance and ruthless editing - and enjoying the process!
Yes - and it’s a brilliant way to add depth to your arrangement. A shelf breaks up flat artwork and introduces texture and dimension, allowing you to layer framed prints, small mirrors or sculptural objects. Keep the shelf slim so it doesn’t overpower the arrangement, and maintain consistent spacing around it. Think of it as another design element within the composition. It brings a more practical element, but is still just as considered as the art itself.
Styling shelving units and display cabinets is all about balance. Start by mixing different heights and textures to keep things visually interesting - for example, layer photo frames behind smaller pieces, add vases with faux flowers for a touch of softness, and introduce a few quirky ornaments to bring personality to the arrangement.
Group items in odd numbers, leave a little breathing room between pieces, and vary the scale so the display feels curated rather than cluttered. The result should feel collected and personal - a mix of decorative objects that reflect your style while still leaving space for the eye to rest.
