Sheepskin Rugs are a firm favourite at RSG and are a beautiful way of softening your interiors and adding texture and depth to the feel of your room. They have become a staple in many people homes with the influence of Instagrammers like Cowboy Kate (the queen of sheepskins!) and Dee Campling.

We love to adorn our floors, sofas, armchairs and beds with sheepskin rugs, but, as with all natural materials, Sheepskin Rugs require care in order to ensure it’s longevity. So to help you make the most of your sheepskin rug, we have come up with our Top 5 Tips to care for your Sheepskin Rug…
RSG Top Tip No.1. Avoid Direct Sunlight ☀
Shelley Carline has cleverly styled her sofa with beautiful sheepskin rugs adding cosiness and warmth. As featured in Rockett St George: Extraordinary Interiors (Ryland Peters & Small, £19.99) Photography by Debi Treloar.
Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight is likely to result in discolouration of your rug, so be mindful of where you place it in the home. Avoid leaving your sheepskin in a sunroom or conservatory if it is exposed to a lot of sunlight in the daytime, or on the back of your sofa if it's positioned under a window.
RSG Top Tip No.2 Brush It Baby
Using a metal bristle brush, similar to a brush that you can find in most pet shops, will reinvigorate your Sheepskin Rug. Brush it regularly and shake outside to get rid of any loose dirt (or crumbs!).
RSG Top Tip No.3 Spot Clean ?
Scrub a dub dub! If you've had a little spill or notice a stain, then spot cleaning would be our first call to action.
Using a cloth and warm water with diluted Sheepskin Shampoo gently dab the spoiled area until you have removed the stain. Then leave in a shaded area to dry ... and voila! Good as new!
Please note, you should never leave your sheepskin to dry in direct sunlight or by direct heat such as on or next to a radiator. The drying process can take time, so we recommend giving the sheepskin a brush once spot cleaned to allow air to circulate between the fibres.
RSG Top Tip No. 4 There's no use crying over it ?

If you do end up with a spillage or stain that you cannot remove with a simple spot clean then our next call to action would be to give your Sheepskin a full machine wash!
To begin give the rug a quick brush down to remove any loose dirt or crumbs. From here you have two options: either pop the rug in the washing machine on a wool cycle at a very low temperature and spin, or hand wash it in the bath.
To hand wash, fill your bath with lukewarm water (not hot!) and a small amount of Sheepskin Shampoo (we've heard Johnson's baby shampoo works just as well). Once filled to the desired level, pop your sheepskin in the tub and gently swirl the water around, but be careful not to aggravate the sheepskin rug with any scrubbing. After a few minutes drain the tub and refill with clean water to rinse out any soap, repeat until all the soap is out and then pop your sheepskin out to dry in a shaded place.
Please Note: If your sheepskin is really old, it may not survive the wash in which case it might be worth considering purchasing a new sheepskin rug.
RSG Top Tip No. 5. Call in the big guns ?

If all else fails and you are left with an unsightly stain then it's time to call in the big guns, namely the dry cleaners! Sometimes it's the experts that know best and if the stain is really big or the rug is older then we think that there's no shame in asking for help!
