Dinner party ideas on a budget

Set the scene.

Atmospheric lighting is probably the most important thing you can do to create a cosy and intimate dinner party setting. To set the mood, avoid turning on overhead lighting and opt for table lights, floor lamps, wall lights and candles as your main source of lighting. Our new Eco Candles such as our Bliss & Mischief Candle would be a wonderful glowing light source plus it's an inexpensive and a mood-boosting game-changer for your dinner party!

Build from the centre outwards.

To create enviable wow-factor, a centrepiece is a must. Fill the centre of the table with potted plants in quirky planters, fresh eucalyptus or your favourite flowers. Or alternatively, snake a snowy pine garland with fairy lights down the centre of the table. Next, layer candles and candlesticks at different heights and sizes to create drama and ambience. Quirky display pieces such as the Leopard Plant Pot will add drama, personality and fun to your table setting. For festive ideas to create a dinner party display, check out our Pinterest Board - Christmas Table Setting or our blog How To Create The Best Christmas Table Setting Ever!

Personalised Table Settings.

A brilliant way to make your dinner party guests feel that bit more special. Personalised place settings will really create a sense of occasion. A great ice breaker for guests who may not know everyone at the table, there are lots of creative and inexpensive place setting ideas, such as little flowers foraged from outside. For Christmas, why not place a bauble or Christmas tree decoration on each place setting as a thoughtful table gift? Our Small Gold Disco Ball, Glitter Eye Bauble and Shiny Gold Christmas Bauble With Leopard Spots are all bound to go down a treat!

Glittering glassware.

Now that you've got your centre display sorted it's time to start thinking about tableware and glassware. Beautiful glasses not only create a sense of occasion, but they will also glitter against your flickering candlelight. Think chic wine glasses, glamorous cocktail glasses and classic tumblers. This will help you create a super intimate and magical setting. If you are on a tight budget then simply use glassware you have at home ... either way, it will still shine amongst the candlelight.

Your best tableware.

Let's face it, a beautiful set of tableware is hard to beat and will help to create visual continuity and style to your table display. But you don't have to spend a small fortune to get your hands on a beautiful tableware set. Instead, why not go for a single colour tableware set (of course, we recommend Black... food just looks better on black plates). We always encourage our customers to buy well and invest in fewer, better quality pieces that they will love for longer. A beautiful dinnerware such as our Sakura Cherry Blossom Dinner Plate or our new Distressed Gold Side Plate won't break the bank but will last you a very long time (if not forever!). They are incredibly beautiful so will also look great on display in your open storage shelves or display cabinets.
