Christmas Dinner Table Decorating

It's to think about your Christmas dinner table decorating!

The festive season is the most glittering time of the year and as interior design obsessives, there is nothing we love more than decorating! From your festive home decor, tree decorations and tablescapes there is so much you can do to make your home wonderfully special this Christmas.

Top 5 Steps For Decorating your Dinner Table at Christmas

1. Start with your Table

How many house guests will be eating on Christmas day? How big is your dining table? Is your dining table round or rectangular?

You should ask yourself all of these questions and then make a plan. So, where do we go from there? If you don't do anything else let it be this step, because you don't want to find yourself down a dining chair or table setting on Christmas day.

So, compile a list of your guests and measure out your table to make sure that you have enough space for everyone. If you need additional furniture then we recommend checking out our dining chairs and dining tables. In addition, you may also need cutlery and crockery, both of which we sell at Rockett St George!

2. Centrepiece Display

The one thing that amazing festive tables have in common is an incredible centrepiece. The focal point of the dinner table draws your friends and family's eye to your beautiful display. It's also a great conversation starter for house guests who may not know each other as well. Whilst, of course, not forgetting that it's totally instagrammable!

You have two choices when it comes to creating a centrepiece - a table centrepiece or a hanging centrepiece.

Table Centrepiece - Build a decorative display on your dinner table with quirky planters, candlesticks and candles, faux ivy, fairy lights and table confetti. The trick is to stick to odd numbers as this always looks most pleasing to the eye and just have fun with it. The good news is that you can always change your display if it doesn't look right. So have no fear!

Hanging centrepiece - To save on space why not hang an incredible centrepiece over your table? The easiest way to do this is to screw hooks into your ceiling and hang a fir branch over the table. Then embellish the branch with Christmas tree decorations and fairy lights. For a more minimalist look, just forage a bare branch from the woods for a striking scandi effect.

3. Table Setting

For each guest curate a table setting that they will love.

Easy to do, we recommend stacking side plates and bowls on your dinner tables and tying your cutlery together with ribbon and a small Christmas decoration attached. Other ideas include using our Set Of 5 Grey Felt Christmas Tree Napkin/Cutlery Holders to hold your cutlery or to create fun napkin wrapping ideas. For napkin folding, tips make sure you check out our blog.

You could even go to town and decorate the backs of your dining chairs with decorations. We love seeing angel wings and faux ivy on the back of dining chairs. It is so incredibly festive and really creates magic in your room.

4. Candles, candles and more candles!

Now that we've sorted the table accessories, the next step for your Christmas dinner table decorating is the candles!

Candles infuse the dining room in beautiful scents and really help to set the mood. We recommend mixing your candles up for maximum impact. For room scents, we recommend using a beautifully scented candle such as our Rockett St George Absolutely Flawless - Wild Pomegranate Candle and then for styling we recommend mixing between pillar candles and candlesticks.

For ultimate impact, get your hands on some quirky candle holders that will make people smile.

5. Token table gifts

Finally, surprise your guests with gifts to complete your Christmas dinner table decorating!

We love using Christmas Tree Decorations as a great token gift. They are really fun, affordable and you can personalise your Christmas decoration to the person sitting there. Great choices include our Retro Heart 'Feminist' Christmas Decoration, Shiny Gold Christmas Bauble With Leopard Spots, Anna Inspired Vogue Christmas Decoration, Peace Dove Hanging Christmas Decoration and the Male Burlesque Christmas Tree Hanging Bauble.

Other ideas include investing in luxury Christmas Crackers, wash bags, gift cards and candles.
