Need to Know

  • Measures: 750ml

  • Preparation: 1. As with all of our Artisan paint effects, we suggest that you practise the application process on a separate board/s where possible to allow you to discover what is your prefered result.

    2. Chalk Wash needs to be applied over a Craig & Rose 1829 Chalky Emulsion which has been painted at least 7 days prior.

    3. All surfaces must be thoroughly free of all dirt, dust, grease, loose or flaking paint.

Application Tools: Rags: clean, dry cotton rags – muslin rags are best. | Sponge: sea sponge or synthetic household sponge, or sponge trowel. | Brush: High-quality synthetic brush.

Application: 1. Starting at the top left-hand corner of the wall apply Chalk Wash using a wide brush (50-75mm) in a random pattern.

    2. It is important that good coverage is achieved and there are no areas where the product is not completely applied. Following closely after, create the desired pattern by ragging muslin cloth over the freshly painted Chalk Wash surface, turning the cloth in your hand to avoid a “stamped” pattern and to use dry areas of the cloth.

    3. The method we recommend is not to hold the muslin on the surface and roll, but to use a large amount (at least 5m) of scrunched muslin and “pounce” or press this quickly and repeatedly to the wall, absorbing the Chalk Wash and leaving a broken, subtle pattern of colour.

    4. Do not go back over completed work. Do not stop in the middle of a wall.

For a softer, more subtly aged look - just when the Chalk Wash is nearly dry, use a dry flogger brush to lightly brush in all directions, breaking up darker areas and creating a very subtle colour variation.

Dry Time: 1. Recoat 2-4 hrs, depending on conditions.

    2. Full paint hardness: 7 days.

    3. The temperature of the room must be above 10°C during application and drying. Under cooler or more humid conditions allow longer time for drying.

  • Please note: Sample pots are not available for this range.

Product Description

About The Craig & Rose Artisan Chalk Wash - Blue Ochre - 750ml

Introducing the new collection of Craig & Rose Artisan Paints in a Chalk Wash Finish. Boldly beautiful, the 750ml Blue Ochre paint is oozing with timeless elegance. Showcasing an alluring dark iron blue mixed with a hint of warm tonal grey, this beautiful artisan paint reminds us of an enchanting starry night. What’s more, the calming blue shade will come to life paired with the delicate broken pattern of the chalk wash finish creating an utterly dreamy appearance. This artisan paint is best used over Craig & Rose 1829 Chalky White Emulsion Paint

For the best results, apply a Craig & Rose 1829 Emulsion Paint 7 days prior to using your chosen chalk wash. Using a wide brush apply your chosen colour in a random motion. Before dry, press a large piece of scrunched muslin cloth in a brisk motion quickly and repeatedly over the freshly painted surface in your desired pattern. Take note not to stamp too firmly and make sure to use only dry areas of the cloth as this will prevent the end result from looking patchy. The finish should exude a subtle, broken pattern of colour.

Please note, sample pots are not available for this range.

Why We Think You’ll Love The Artisan Chalk Wash - Blue Ochre

Blue ochre was a commonly used shade at the beginning of the modern art era in the 19th century as a warmer, opulent alternative to black. In the same vein, this soothing colour is the perfect shade to create a less obtrusive yet dark and daring bespoke feature wall in your home. Exuding a subtle marble effect finish, this chalk wash paint will offer a delightfully intriguing textured appearance that will instantly catch your eye, so what’s not to love?!

Be sure to use a muslin cloth as the fabric is thinner and lighter making it easier to create the pattern you desire.
