Our Interior Design Trend Predictions 2020

Interior Design Trends

What we think will be hotting up in the world of Interior Design Trends for 2020.

As we prepare to approach a brand-new decade, we’re looking ahead to the interior design trends of 2020! These no doubt will be influencing our home and lifestyle choices in 2020. Trends are inspired by everything from cultural and social change to technology and consumer habits. We’ve always loved trends at Rockett St George. They enable us to gain endless inspiration from how they respond and react to the world. Although important to all aspects of design, we believe that trends should be followed selectively rather than religiously. So you should be able to dip in and out of this vast world of inspiration when it works for you. After all, you're not going to like every trend.

Taking inspiration from the top European trade shows and emerging trends that have caught our eye throughout 2019, our co-founders Jane Rockett & Lucy St George have created an edit of incredible trends to look out for in 2020. From the growing importance of natural textures to glamorous final touches and a celebration of complete individuality. Our 2020 trend edit will complement your interior and bring your home into the next decade with sensational style! What's more, you can shop your favourite trends in our 2020 Interior Trends Edit to get the look.

NATURAL TEXTURE TREND

I’m sure it will come as no surprise to see nature at the top of our trends! Technological advances and societal stresses mean nature provides a welcome respite and helps us reconnect with the world. Brilliant for bringing the beauty of the outside in, a new approach to natural textures reveals coloured marble, matte limestone, to dried flowers, and classic organic textures. Whilst rich wood textures and laid-back linens remain a key consideration, natural doesn’t necessarily mean minimal. So we’re excited to see nature react with luxury materials for a more eclectic, indulgent interior. But when it comes to your colour palette, opt for gentle colours with calming ambience; soft tones and earthy neutrals are great for creating a sanctuary where you can escape the world outside and relax after a long day. If you Love the Natural Textures trend why not shop our 2020 Natural Textures trend edit.

"Muted pinks, caramel tones, mint or olive greens, and clay colours will all start emerging in 2020, we recommend pairing these paler colour palettes with black accessories to give your interior an edge." - Jane Rockett

GROWN-UP GLAMOUR

A trend that’s never far from our minds! Grown-up glamour embraces a maximalist approach to décor where pattern reigns and there’s no such thing as too many trimmings! Inspired by the roaring twenties and iconic Art Deco era, glamour is back for 2020. And it's bigger than ever. In times of political confusion, often we look to improve things with a healthy dose of opulence, fun and glamour. Art Deco design is perfect for this. Will you be roaring in the '20s? Shop our Grown-up Glamour Trend Edit to get the look.

"We all deserve a little luxury in our lives. As we move towards staying in and entertaining at home, decadent décor schemes are something to be celebrated. Think bold patterns, fabulous fringing, tactile velvets and a range of exciting everyday luxuries. Plus, as we head into a brand-new era of the 20s, a little nostalgia for the glamour of the Jazz Age is only natural!" - Lucy St George

FOREVER FURNITURE

As with 2019, we’re looking at ways of making more eco-conscious decisions at home. This year it means ‘buy once, buy well’. Appropriate across all aspects of life, from fashion to furniture, making considered purchases that will last for many years to come helps to reduce your impact on the environment and eliminate throw-away culture. Potentially more of an anti-trend, focusing on forever furniture means choosing timeless design over more fashion-focused trends. Find your Forever Furniture in our 2020 Trend Edit.

"When it comes to furniture and the larger impact accessories in your home, it’s important to invest in key pieces that you will love, forever! With this in mind, you can’t go too far wrong with rich natural wood cabinets, vintage designs with an antique aesthetic and classic Danish style sofas." - Jane Rockett

ENGLISH ECCENTRIC

In 2020, the focus is firmly on you! Just as fashion trends have shifted to celebrate individuality and personal style, so have interiors. Expect to see confident interiors that approach colour and decoration with some serious drama… The beauty is that this trend embraces that each home is different and should be celebrated for that. Always a fan to throw out the rule book, having 'good taste' is often overrated. If you love it and it makes you smile, then it deserves to be celebrated in your home! Shop the English Eccentric Interior Trend.

"Whilst it’s always amazing to take inspiration from trends and the world around you, at the end of the day your home should be a reflection of you. So, go to town with all your favourite things and curate displays around your home that express your individuality – you do you!" - Lucy St George

FAR EASTERN INFLUENCE

From Wabi-Sabi to Japandi, Japan has inspired a wealth of trends in the design world and continues to excite and inspire as we enter a brand-new decade. Renowned for finding the beauty in simplicity and celebrating the natural world, the timeless design principles of traditional Japanese design are as relevant as ever. Not just limited to the beauty of Japanese design, we’re predicting a rise in eastern influences across interiors for 2020. Inspired by increased global travel and our adventures around the world. This trend celebrates unique pieces collected or inspired by past travels. Anything that brings back memories and creates a unique and personal interior. Discover more in our Far Eastern Trend Edit.

"Renowned for refined craftsmanship and creativity, we’re excited to see decadent dark wood, woven cane textures, oriental prints and structured furniture embraced across interiors to celebrate the incredible cultures of the far east." - Jane Rockett
