2023 Trend: Checks & Stripes

The second instalment of our 2023 trend edit focuses on the playful pattern trend of checks and stripes. Above all, this theme celebrates a fearless approach to classic patterns. For the last couple of years, chic stripes and retro checkerboard designs have been popping up across the world of home accessories. However, 2023 is the year that these patterns officially step into the spotlight. Keep reading to discover how to embrace this trend in your home this year...

Trend Moodboard

In short, the checks & stripes trend is all about experimenting with colour and pattern. For example, pattern is a brilliant way to bring joy to your interior. In addition, a bold colour palette helps boost your mood the moment you step through the front door.

“We are always looking for ways to bring more joy into our everyday lives as an antidote to the news. As a result, in 2023 we are turning to patterns as a failsafe and a fabulous way to achieve this. One of the biggest trends we’re predicting this year is the arrival of quirky patterns of checks & stripes.

Firstly, these prints introduce a creative take on classic patterns for the home. Moreover, the timeless nature of the trend allows for a more experimental approach to colour. So, expect to see maximalist monochrome checks and sexy stripes in a range of colour palettes. The beauty of both patterns is that they go with everything and can be easily introduced to your home. Consequently, checks & stripes will be a big part of our collection in 2023, ranging from kitchen storage to living room lighting, mirrors and garden accessories.” Lucy St George

Checks & Stripes: The Colour Palette

Once you have decided on your pattern of choice, it’s time to talk about colour palettes. After all, we’ve already established that checks & stripes are a great base for playing with bolder colour combinations that will boost your mood. For instance, why not opt for checkered designs in red, pink or green? Pink and red are proven to promote passion and creativity, while green helps introduce a calming connection to nature. Alternatively, style your home with stripes in hot hues. From Pantone’s 2023 Colour of The Year Viva Magenta to rich orange and mustard yellow, these colours promise to brighten your day. Styled against a monochrome interior or neutral background, you cannot go wrong with any of these creative colours!

Get The Look

Finally, it’s time to apply the trend to your home. Most importantly of all, it’s important to stay true to your own style. Therefore, we recommend embracing trends on a smaller scale first to make sure that the look works with your existing treasures. One of our favourite things about the checks and stripes trend is that you don’t have to go all-out to create an impact. For example, something as simple as a collection of colourful checkered photo frames will make a statement. Furthermore, introducing a couple of new striped cushions promises to transform your home with on-trend style. So, start small and live with the trend before going wild with maximalist pattern. However, if you are anything like us, we have a feeling you won’t be able to resist coming back for more!
