Top 5 tips to decorate your large or small bedroom on a budget

1. Wall Paint

Inexpensive, yet with transformative effects on your bedroom interiors, if you change one thing in your bedroom let it be the paint!

Dark wall paint for the bedroom

If you love the dark side then a dark bedroom is for you. Opt for dark colours with a warm golden or brown undertone to create a cosy bedroom. These warming undertones are particularly important in creating a rich and cocooning feeling which will help you to relax and drift off to sleep easily.

Neutral wall paint for the bedroom

A lovely neutral chalky white, sandy tone or gorgeous grey are the perfect bedroom neutrals. Our top picks include the Craftsman's White Wall Paint, Chalky White Paint and the Cloisters Sandy Wall Paint.

Colourful wall paint for the bedroom

Really create impact with colour in your bedroom. Choose from pretty pinks and navy blues to rich browns and deep greens. Just remember, warm undertones are really important for all bedroom paints that you choose, so make sure the colour is rich and deep. This will ensure that your room feels cosy, safe and secure. Great choices include our Broderie Pink Wall Paint, Emanuella Earthy Toned Wall Paint and our Briarwood Deep Brown Wall Paint.

2. Invest In Bedroom Furniture

When it comes to furnishing your bedroom on a budget, less is more. This is particularly useful to remember if you have a small bedroom as too much furniture in decor in a room can make it feel cluttered and oppressive. So we recommend investing in a few key pieces of bedroom furniture that you will love forever and ever. Saving you money in the long run.

Beds.

A good bed is certainly worth spending a few more pennies on when budgeting for your bedroom furniture. If you look at it as a lifetime investment which is also better for the environment, then its a good idea to find a bed that you will be happy with for life. Some of our favourite investment beds include our Liberty Slate Grey Buttoned King Size Bed and King Size Four Poster Iron Canopy Bed. However, if you're really strapped for cash then you could make a palette bed. Discover our tips on how to make a pallet bed in our blog.

Bedside Tables.

A good bedside table can act as storage and a space for your table lamps and nightstand essentials. Some of our favourites include the Oriental Gloss White Bedside Table, Solid Acacia Wood Bedside Table and the Black Wood And Brass Leg Bedside Table. The latter is particularly good for small bedrooms. But, if you really want to save money, then you can always swap your bedside table out for a stool or alternatively skip a bedside table all-together and create a minimal bedroom aesthetic.

Wardrobes.

Wardrobes and clothes storage often doesn't come cheap. The solution?! A clothes rail! Clothes rails are a fraction of the price of wardrobes and you can easily source them from eBay or your local Facebook buying and selling page. Finally, you can join the Rockett St George Buy-Swap-Sell Group to buy and sell Rockett St George bedroom furniture.

3. Clever space-saving storage

Our third tip on how to decorate your bedroom a budget is particularly important if you're decorating a small bedroom.

Wall storage

Wall storage is by far the most efficient way to create space in a room and it's fairly inexpensive compared to a chest of drawers and other storage cabinets. Great ideas include a wall hanging bedside table like our Mango Wood Wall-Hung Bedside Shelf which will stow away your nightstand essentials whilst leaving space below, creating the illusion of a larger room. Other options include shelves and shelving units for your bedroom display pieces, books and candles. Some of our favourites include our Round Rattan Shelf, Black Quadratic Shelf Unit and the Brass & Glass Bedside Table / Shelf.

Baskets

Clutter can build up so quickly in our homes and a simple solution to this is stylish storage! Invest in beautiful baskets and storage trays to keep everything neat and tidy in your bedroom. What's more, this storage is also super inexpensive too. Great ideas include our Set Of 2 Rattan Pineapple Storage Baskets, Set Of 2 Straw Baskets With Black Pom Poms and Palm Tree Trinket Dish.

4. Great lighting

Lighting is integral to any room in the home and nowhere is it more important than in the bedroom.

Wall Lights.

If you're short on space then wall lights are particularly brilliant lighting choices for the bedroom. It also creates a hotel-like feel in your bedroom oozing luxury and glamour. Great wall light choices would be a soft globe or shaded wall light which will emit a soft and warm glow in your room. Stark, white light has no place in the bedroom. Great wall light choices for the bedroom include our Art Deco Oval Marble Wall Light, White Glass Globe Wall Light and the Large Directional Wall Light With Sphere Wicker Shade.

Table Lights.

A cheaper option to wall lights, table lights are a great choice if you want to save yourself the time and expense of wiring in a wall light. Again, we'd recommend an option for a soft LED light or a table lamp with a good shade so as to create low-lighting in your bedroom. Low-lighting will help to regulate your circadian rhythm helping you to drift off to a good nights sleep. For more sleep tips check out our wellness advice. Great table lamps include our Wonderful Wicker Table Lamp With White Shade, Gold Dome Table Lamp and Mosaic Vase Table Lamp.

5. Soft furnishings and textures

Our final tip on how to decorate your bedroom on a budget is textiles. Lots of them!

Cushions.

We are of the firm belief that you can never have too many cushions! Crucially, cushions are particularly useful if you're trying to decorate your bedroom on a budget for two reasons. Firstly, they are inexpensive and secondly, mixing up your cushions is a really simple way of transforming your bedroom without much fuss. Some of our favourite cushions include our Leopard Love Velvet Cushion, Burgundy Red Dahlia Velvet Printed Cushion and the Yes Or No Glamorous Beaded Double Sided Cushion.

Throws.

Duvet sets and new bedding can be quite expensive so a simple solution is to cover it with a beautiful throw. It will make your room feel cosy and welcoming and it's a great extra layer for winter nights. If you're looking for some lovely throws for your bed check out our Mono Pattern Tassel Throw or Dusky Pink Velvet Throw.

Rugs.

If you're a renter and you're not a fan of the carpet or if you simply do not have the fund to pay for new carpet in the bedroom then get your hands on some lovely bedroom rugs. Great ideas include sheepskin rugs which you can use as an alternative blanket on your bed or on the floor as a rug. You can even drape it on the back of your chair whilst you sit at your dressing table or desk.
