With Earth Day on April 22nd 2021, now is the perfect excuse to be more eco friendly in the home. Fun earth day activities and small changes can lead to lasting habits. And it's those habits that make a big impact when it comes to leading a more eco-friendly lifestyle. So, we've come up with our top ways that will challenge you to become more eco friendly in aid of World Earth Day on 22nd April. Keep reading for our guide and see how much you can change in the home.

Refillable Containers

Ditch the cling film in favour of beeswax wrap, beautiful glass bowls and fabulous storage containers. Not only do they look far more stylish, but you can easily store and stack them up when in use. We wrote a whole blog on Storage Ideas for Your Kitchen Pantry, Larder and Shelves to get you started. Refilling your jars is such a satisfying job to do. Our favourite place to shop for our re-fills is Planet Organic, Infinity Foods, and Grocer & Grain.

Get A Milkman & Start Composting

We first mentioned our rekindled love with the milkman back in our Top 5 2019 Resolutions for You and Your Home blog. We switched to milk bottles at RSG HQ as part of our initiative to reduce our use of plastic. And we have never looked back since! It's also a great way to support our local organic dairy farmers. If you're lucky enough to have an outside space, why not compost your food waste? You may already be enrolled in a food waste scheme with your local council, but another great way to improve this is to compost suitable leftovers yourself. Not only will you create fabulously enriched compost for your flower beds, but your rubbish bin will also be less smelly! Our Powder Coated Steel Compost Bucket would make a great food waste bin and look super stylish in your kitchen too.

With our Eco-Collection ever-growing, we have some exciting products coming this month to celebrate World Earth Day. So as we continue to be more environmentally conscious, we hope that our newest products can inspire you to make those little and important changes in and around the home...

Easy Everyday Swaps

From biodegradable teabags to bars of soap over plastic bottles (unless re-fillable!) and biodegradable bin liners. There are some easy swaps that you can make at home to be more eco friendly in everyday life. Make an effort to source your usual shopping list with a twist - it's easier than you might think! For example, did you know that wine bottles with corks are much more eco friendly than those with screw tops?

Our glass soap dispensers are perfect for refilling at an organic shop that offers refills and the fine mist spray bottles are perfect for making your own eco-friendly surface spray for the kitchen. One of our favourite eco shower product brands Faith In Nature has made a super list of all of the stores you can find their refill stations at here. We also love Wilton London for eco-friendly wash care, check them out here and make the important switch today!

Ditch Single-Use Plastic For Good

A simple switch to shopper bags is the obvious option but incredibly important. You will never forget to take these stylish and functional shopper bags out with you for day to day errands. Reducing single-use plastics, perfect for picnics, shopping and every day, these extra-large shoppers are a trusty option that cuts out unnecessary plastic bags for good. This is an ideal gift idea for a friend and a bag something you can use for years to come. So what's not to love?!

Consuming Consciously

If you're shopping for new items for the home, it's a great chance to be more eco-friendly with your choices. A general rule of thumb is to go for the naturals. Materials like wood, glass, bamboo, rattan and leather can all either be broken down or recycled after use. This means that your footprint on the planet will be a little lighter. This doesn't mean you can't buy something which has or contains plastics, just check before your purchase about how easy it is to recycle. This way you can make a better-informed decision about what impact you want your purchasing habits to have on the environment. You can shop smarter by buying products that have been made from recycled materials or can be recycled.
