Known most famously as the woman who brought 'bohemian chic' to the UK, the work of 1960's and 70's fashion and interior designer Thea Porter is to be celebrated in an exhibition at the Fashion & Textile Museum this month. We love a gypsy dress or two and cannot wait to visit the FTM to pour over the beautiful outfits and photographs! Porter originally grew up in Damascus [Jerusalem] but moved to London in the swinging 60's where she opened a shop in Greek Street [Soho] which immediately drew interest from big time movie and music stars, such as the Beatles, Pink Floyd and Elizabeth Taylor. Porter's idea was to design and sell Eastern-inspired clothes and interiors in the UK, which very quickly became the signature look of that era. The exhibition takes a look at Porter's life and travels that led to such an incredible career, of which her work still strongly inspires fashion and textile design today. There will be over 150 outfits, original drawings and sketches, as well as photographs and magazine spreads to showcase Porter's evolution as a designer  and exploration of Middle Eastern and North African textiles.

Highlights include Porter’s seven signature looks: the Abaya & Kaftan; the Gipsy dress; the Faye dress; the Brocade-panel dress; the Wrap-over dress; the Chazara jacket; and the Sirwal skirt, as well as important fashion photography from the pages of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and Women’s Wear Daily.

6 February – 3 May 2015 at the Fashion & Textile Museum

Anti Valentines

We're still in love with Valentine's Day, it's a good excuse to down tools and make time for a cuddle! We have a few favourite things to do this Feb that we'd like to share with you - whether you're single, married or dating these are all good fun...

Sunday Assembly - We've become a little bit obsessed with going to 'church' recently. The Sunday assembly offers something a little different to the traditional however. Billed as a global movement for wonder and good, the Sunday Assembly is a godless congregation that celebrates life. Their motto: live better, help often, wonder more. Their mission: to help everyone find and fulfill their full potential. Available in many locations across the UK [see website for details].

Hotel Hang Out - We received a newsletter from one of our favourite hoteliers last week who always has a cool event on the go, ready to entertain us. To make this Valentines Day a little different we thought we'd share two of our favourites with you. First up, learn all about The Art of Flirting on the 9th Feb with love coach and psychosexual therapist Cate Mackenzie. Cate will talk you through the art of flirting and how to use it to your advantage. This course is all about giving you confidence and having fun in all aspects of your life, while also helping you with tips to bag yourself a perfect partner in crime! Our Second favourite is their Bedtime Story event on the 18th Feb. The Hoxton promise theatrical stories for grownups which are guaranteed to make you laugh, cry, clap and cringe! Enjoy a boozy hot chocolate cocktail while storytellers play out their tales of mystery and adventure. Tickets are £12 for both and include a drink. A full schedule of events is available here.

Hex Your Ex -  If none of the above float your boat, head to BoxPark in Shoreditch on the 14th and you will learn how to make a voodoo doll of your ex to take home! [2-4pm].

Okay so this month's playlist is going to be a little bit lovey-dovey! But, it is guaranteed to make you feel good - so give it a listen and tell us what you think! As usual you can follow this playlist and add it to your own Spotify account.

1. I Heard Love Is Blind - Amy Winehouse
2. Take Me To Church - Hozier
3. No Ordinary Love - You+Me
4. Warm Step - Momotaro
5. Bag of Gold - Zee Avi
6. Darling Are You Gonna Leave Me - London Grammar
7. Seven Day Smile - Jane Weaver
8. Breathe - RHODES
9. Our Love - Sharon Van Etten
10. Gracious - Ben Howard

Here are our 5 favourite Instagrammers for this month - give them a follow and see what you think.

1. get_headspace - For mindfulness, soul searching and all things calm.
2. kelli_murray - For style that we want to steal and [very] cute kids.
3. perolavsolvberg - A male Interiors Stylist from Norway who snaps fabulous interiors and food.
4. nomadstyling - Earthy inspiration for you to incite into your own life.
5. emily_katz - Evocative, adventurous interiors. We've got an extreme style crush.

Cyberbully is a short film staring Game of Thrones actress Maisie Williams, that addresses the dangers our teenagers face online today. It was first aired in January, but we felt that if you haven't yet seen it, you really must catch up. With much of our lives are now pursued through the web, this drama highlights how vulnerable you can be when communicating through a screen, and captures a real-life situation that is ever more common. Eye-opening and truth-baring.

Watch it on Channel 4 here.

Our latest foodie obsession is HOTBOX. We first sampled their delicious smoked ribs at Dalston Yard's Street Feast pop-up and now they have landed a permanent residency in their own restaurant in Spitalfields. Smokey BBQ specialists served with signature cocktails and crafted beers.

46-48 Commercial Street, London E1 6LT.

Pennyweight was created by Nashville based stylist Elsie Joseph to document her desire for all things fashion, interiors, music, art and photography. It is a fountain of inspiration for your home and life - we've recently added it to our reading list and haven't been disappointed.
