Diversity: Black Lives Matter
The death of George Floyd shook and dismayed us at Rockett St George. Indeed recent events has made everyone across all industries stop and reflect on their practices, systemic racism and lack of diversity and inclusion.
As a brand in the home interiors industry Rockett St George has the power to make changes that will benefit the design community and so we believe it's our responsibility to do all that we can to amplify BAME voices in the industry. As for many of us, recent events have made us stop to think about our shortcomings and where we've failed to fairly represent BAME designers, creators and experts. We want to do better and so we've published our Black Lives Matter Statement on the website to publically announce our pledges. We believe that transparency and accountability are key to redressing racial inequalities. ⠀
What's more, we have also joined the Design For Diversity initiative as created by Kate Watson-Smyth and Rukmini Patel to pledge to do better. The core aim of the initiative is to recognise and ensure representation of BAME talent in the interior design community and Rockett St George alongside other companies including Pooky Lighting, Jazzierere, Little Red PR, Irving & Co, Audenza Home and Heals have committed to the initiative.
As part of the initiative we pledge the following:
We pledge that our websites, blogs and social media will at all times endeavour to include people of every colour and gender and sexuality.
Rockett St George pledges to seek out Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic candidates to interview for roles that arise in our businesses. We will always hire the person best for the job but will endeavour to bring more diverse candidates through the process. We stop short of positive discrimination and we reject tokenism.
We pledge that any events we hold, be that panel discussion, talks, dinners, receptions, or media events that we will endeavour to include people of all colours and genders.
The initiative has also been included in Vogue Magazine if you'd like to read more about it.
Have you been affected by recent events?
We have compiled a number of helpful resources on our Black Lives Matter page for those looking for mental health advice and for those who would like to educate themselves further.

G&T Ice Lollies
You will need:
- Ice Lolly Moulds
- Tonic Water - Indian Tonic would be particularly nice in this recipe.
- Cordial - Elderflower or lime cordial would be a nice addition here.
- Mint Leaves
- Slice cucumber and then place a few slices and mint leaves into the ice lolly mould.
- In a separate jug mix a 1/10th gin (add more or less depending on how strong you'd like it), 1 quarter cordial and 3 quarters tonic water.
- Pour the mixtures into the ice lolly moulds and freeze for a minimum of 4hrs.
- Enjoy on a hot summers day!
