One of our favourite parts of Christmas has to be (hands down) the food and drink! If you're anything like us, then you’ll prefer eating and drinking rather than slaving over a hot stove too.

As the saying goes, it is actually possible to have your cake and eat it, so, we called upon our co-founder Jane, who has to be one of the worst cooks, but best stylists we know and is famous for whipping up incredible feasts that you would think has taken hours.  She has put together 6 fabulous insta-worthy Christmas Classics for all the family – the cheat way! Let us help you impress your friends and family without the stress with our top styling tips.

1. Mulled Wine - smells and colours

No need to blend herbs and spices when all the supermarkets do mouth-watering off the shelf Mulled Wine (my favourite is the one from Waitrose).  Heat gently over a stove being careful not to boil.  This will fill your home with clouds of gorgeous Christmas smells as friends and family gravitate to the kitchen to find out where the smells are coming from start slicing oranges which will not only impress but adds to the sensory delights.  The styling is all about the colours, here I have used pretty glasses rather than boring old wine glasses.  I have sliced oranges and added a few physalis which looks impressive bobbing around in the glass and taste delicious when soaked in the warm mulled wine.   I have chosen a marble and gold tray which blends with the ruby reds and warm orange colours plus a quirky star spoon completely my look.  Time to serve your guests with a smile.

2. Party Food – It’s all about the breadboards

Forget spending hours filling your vol au vents and just buy all you need.  Unless you are a super cook it will taste better, you will definitely have time to enjoy yourself whilst keeping stress levels to a minimum.

My top tip is to use breadboards to present your party food.  In these images, I have used some really pretty ones which have just arrived at Rockett St George (they will be going home with me).

I bought the koftas ready to heat up and complete with sticks – perfect! I then wrapped some parchment paper into a cone and stuck a cocktail stick through to keep in place.  The tzatziki is emptied into a pretty earthenware bowl and the mint used as a garnish.  I also added the mint in a little earthenware espresso cup which not only looks lovely but adds to the scent of the dish.

The use of the earthenware cups for the snacks looks unique and stylish.  Remember to add sprigs of herbs to add scent and style to the look.

3. Entertaining the Kids

This crate of bottles is the perfect kitchen accessory for kids treats.  I have bought some little chocolate brownies but this also works with cookies.  Just fill your bottle with milk, hot chocolate or whatever drink you prefer and slide the brownie over a straw …. Then serve.

Alternatively, for the adults, you can serve a cocktail this way with a piece of fruit on the straw… the uses are endless.

4. Desert to die for

I have been using this cheat for years and it always looks spectacular.  Simply buy a chocolate cake, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries and any other berries you can get your hands on.  Simply pile them as high as you can and sieve icing sugar over the top.  I have used a black marble cake stand, a black plate together with gold cutlery to create drama and contrast.
